JP Truck Racing at Donington 202 BTRA Championship

Donington 2020 BTRA Championship

First weekend racing with the new Cummins ISG12 engine, Rudd Visser Adaptronic package and Green D+ bio fuel. The GPS speed limiter was installed and supplied by Sturdy and Richard Gunner from Premier Diagnostics was on hand to advice on fuel and pressures as was William of Green BioFuels . Thanks to the Green D+ the truck was running so clean with not a speck of smoke, white or black.

Initial testing on Thursday proved to be a good fact finding session. Gearbox, driveline and suspension was performing well. Thanks to Chris at Shocking, we are able to adjust shocks as required and the new Adaptronic package allowed us to keep in contact with Ruud, reporting on temperatures, fuel pressure, power & were able to carry out calibrations to assist with the trucks performance.

Although the starter motor burned out during testing due to the internal valve sticking and running continiously , we was able to get around this temporarily by using a screwdriver through the housing to push against the solenoid.

Qualifying on Saturday in 8th place with a time of 1.44.580 indicated a power issue. It was found to be a faulty rail pressure sensor. A quick dash to Scania at Stoke on Trent bought us a new sensor. The sensor was too big on the banjo side, but with some help from Craig Reid and a drill bit, it was fitted and working successfully, thank you Craig.

First race Saturday finish in 6th place with a best lap time of 1.35.095

Second race Saturday finish in 6th place with a best lap time of 1.34.737

Early to rise Sunday morning brought some tyre pressure changes to accommodate the wet weather, throttle pedal & clutch positioning changes.

Third race Sunday morning finish in 5th position with a best lap time of 1.38.025

Fourth race in the wet finish in 4th position with a best lap time of 1.48.431. Traffic coming through from the Division 1 one drivers forced John off the race line causing increased lap times.

Final race of the weekend finish in 4th position with a best lap time of the race and the weekend of 1.34.010. It also became apparent that the truck was not hitting the 100mph. The speed limiter appeared to be kicking in at about 96mph.

All in all we were happy with the engines performance. It showed an improvement on power throughout the weekend. We will now be using data gained over the weekend to tweak the engine, set up the suspension and we will be re-calibrating the speed limiter. This should give us the extra power and performance we need for a winning division 2 race truck.

Premier Diagnostic & Green Biofuel will be carrying out fuel testing going forward to ensure we remain environmentally friendly.
